C.K. Wong, Nonwovens Industry Pioneer, Passes Away in Hong Kong

Chairman of U.S. Pacific Procurement Company helped bridge the gap between North America and Asia for the nonwovens industry

C.K. Wong, chairman and CEO of US Pacific Nonwovens Industry, passed away recently in Hong Kong. He was 86 years old.

Wong grew up in Hong Kong and became a citizen of the U.S. when he was in his 20s. He obtained a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering in New York.

C.K. recognized the importance of the emerging nonwovens industry in the early 1970s. After working with nonwovens products and related industries in the export/import area, he decided to relocate to Hong Kong in 1988. In 1989, he set up his corporate headquarters in Hong Kong to direct his plant in China for converting nonwovens roll goods into disposable end-use products for medical and industrial protection products. Over the years this was expanded to include household, beauty salon and sports applications and other value-added products. His company also provides sales, service and training for nonwovens equipment.

In 1994, C.K.’s company formally adopted the name U.S. Pacific Nonwovens Limited.  In 1999, he built a new converting factory with nine floors in Dongguan in Mainland China and in 2007 purchased an adjacent six-floor building for a total of over 250,000 square feet.

C.K. has been an active member of INDA Association of the Nonwovens Fabrics Association serving as vice chairman and treasurer for several years and later as retired vice chairman and executive board director. He has been credited by INDA for helping it open the doors to China. He was also honorable chairman of the Guangdong Nonwovens Association (GDNA) & China Nonwovens & Industrial Textiles Association Spunbonded Division.

He is survived by his wife, Sabrina Wong, and their children.
